Her name is Angel. Her wide smile is a pure indication of overwhelming joy and gratitude for a miracle that came her way and saved her life.
Angel’s mother is a 16 year old teenager who dropped out of school for lack of school fees.
The overwhelming poverty in her family of five siblings and a single mother living in a horrible slum condition drove her to become a sex worker.
A year later, she became pregnant and automatically knew that her source of income was coming to an end with an additional mouth to feed. The only solution before her was abortion. Three times she took drugs to get rid of the pregnancy but failed.
She later made a decision to keep the pregnancy but throw away the baby after delivery in the huge dumping site in Nairobi.
One day as she passed by the dump site she saw Home of Hope’s sign post, “Don’t throw away your baby, we can help”. She called and connected with Home of Hope, taken through counseling and with the encouragement of our counselors, she decided to keep the pregnancy and raise the baby.
Angel after birth is a joy to her mother. She is just one of the many babies prevented from abortion or throwing away in plastic bags.
